What All Successful Creators Have in Common

*For the past few months I’ve been doing a series on Facebook called #coffeewisdom, where I share snapshots of guidance I’ve received for clients and for myself. Because I’ve been so busy between my client work and new passion for learning latin dance (I dance 7 days a week), I haven’t had time to write full-length blog posts lately. So I’ve decided to start sharing these short, powerful messages here, so you can use them to live your potential more quickly and easily. Here’s my latest share.

______

What is one thing all very successful creators have in common?

They have a rock solid story they are telling themselves about themselves, and embodying that. Once you embody that, the world will believe you.

Why do people pay millions for a painting of three coloured stripes? They have. Why are people willing to pay 3-4 times over the original budget when a famous architect is creating a building for them?

Because they can feel the resonance of that creator’s confidence in what they’re expressing and they buy into it. They want to be part of that story. Those creators are deeply connected with who they are, and they don’t apologize for it. Lots of people hate their work, but those creators don’t care. Because they understand that when you create work with a strong emotional imprint, people will either love it or hate it. They understand what they are exploring and why it matters, and why they’re expressing it to the world. And they don’t give a shit who loves it. They love it and believe in it. And, as a result, people who sometimes don’t even like or understand their creations still respect their creations. And respect them as a creator.

So if you want to be a truly successful creator, invest time every day into understanding and believing in your own story. Write it and rewrite it. Read it and reread it. Until it becomes so deeply a part of you that everyone else can feel it when you walk into a room, or when they see your creations. Then you can charge whatever you want and people will buy it. Because they’re not buying a product. They’re buying a piece of who you are and what you represent for them. They want to be part of your story.
