I talk a lot about aligning with your True Self, and the way I help people do that is by providing insight and understanding into what their life story and emotions are trying to tell them about their Purpose and Hero’s Journey.

However, you don’t need me to align with your True Self. I’m just a shortcut. You can align with your True Self anytime you want to. It is YOU, after all.

What is a True Self?

It’s the part of you that’s connected to infinite wisdom. It remembers all that you have learned in this and all your previous lives. It knows exactly why you chose to be here—your Life Purpose. It knows what you wanted to learn and share with others. It knows your personal genius and special abilities.

It remembers every dream you’ve ever had, and it can see exactly how you could best manifest them. It can see all the emotional challenges you face, and it knows how to help you with them. On your Hero’s Journey (we are all the hero of our own life story) it can see all the wonderful possibilities, challenges and obstacles on your path ahead, and it can guide you accordingly.

It’s the source of all your power and magic. It holds the energy of all your dreams and highest visions of what you want to create and experience, and it knows exactly how to make them a reality, in a way that is fun and satisfying for you.

So…might be a good idea to let this part of you guide your journey and choices, no?

4 Things You Need to Know to Connect With Your True Self

  1. Know that your True Self is always here calling to you. It never leaves you. It never gives up on you. It never says “screw you,” I’ve had enough of you! It loves you unconditionally. It adores every part of you—even the parts you fear and reject. Trust in that. It needs nothing from you. It’s endlessly patient. It never gets angry at or fed up with you. It wants only to help you live your highest vision for yourself, because that’s what you came here to do.
  2. Know that the way to connect with your True Self is through relaxing and “letting go” in each moment that arises. Pursuing and striving won’t work. Your True Self is here with you right now; the only reason you can’t feel it is because you are trying so hard to control everything—fighting and struggling and arguing with whatever is happening right now in your Life. It’s not your fault. We have all been taught to strive and compete and compare ourselves with others. We’ve been taught that we have to fight to succeed. We’ve also been taught to judge and punish ourselves and others. All of this puts up a barrier between us and our True Self.
    1. You don’t need to “fix yourself” or do or be anything special to be in alignment with your True Self; it’s your birthright.
    2. You don’t need to figure out how to get rid of your painful or negative feelings or pretend they’re not there (in fact, that will get in your way); just let them be there, and let go of your stories about them.
    3. You don’t need to act “spiritual” because, like it or not, you ARE spiritual.
  3. Know that every experience is here to help you learn, grow & expand so you can become the highest version of yourself. Your emotions are a compass that can guide you in new and better directions. Every time you find yourself struggling, ask yourself the following questions:
    1. How is this experience helping me? What am I learning? And listen with an open heart for the answers.
    2. Do I want to feel “righteously right” (i.e. angry) and keep demanding that other people and life do what I “think” they should do? Or do I want to align with my True Self and allow that to guide me to my best and happiest life? (One is all about control, which is the domain of your False Self. The other is about realizing that whatever you’ve been doing is not getting you the results you want, and deciding to let go and trust in Life, which will naturally align you with your True Self. A daily mindfulness meditation practice can help a lot with this.)
  4. Know that all your creations and experiences begin with your intentions. So, if you really want to reconnect with your True Self, you are going to have to set a powerful intention.
    1. Put it in writing, then say it out loud on a daily basis: “I am ready, willing and excited to align with and receive guidance from my True Self.”
    2. You can also write a letter to your True Self, stating that you are ready to align with it, you are ready to stop struggling, but you don’t know how, so you need its help. Ask it to send you obvious signs and guidance to help you. But then pay attention—because it will start sending you books and songs and quotes and people to help you. (If you’re wondering: why do I have to do this if it’s always here trying to help me? Again, it’s because you are currently unable to trust it enough to be guided by it. So you are asking for help to begin the journey of learning to trust it again.)
