Is It Your Intuition or Fear?

by | Jun 3, 2015

I’ll bet it’s happened to you.

Maybe it’s happening right now.

You’re trying to make an important decision, and you want to follow your “gut”—but all you’re getting is waves of fear.

“What’s the fear trying to tell me?” You wonder. “Does it mean I shouldn’t do this thing?”

Not usually. Often, the louder the fear, the more it’s something you really should do. Why? Because whenever you’re going to step up a level, your False Self will throw a bunch of scare-mongering tactics at you to try to stop you.

I faced this a couple weeks ago. During a group visualization class, I kept seeing all these images of me being reborn. I wasn’t sure what it meant, so I started imagining the worst-case scenario (losing everything, having to start over; this has happened to me a number of times already, and is not uncommon on intensive spiritual paths).

Then I remembered I’m a spiritual guide, haha, so I decided I should probably reconnect with higher guidance to get some help, instead of trying to figure it out by myself.

(I used one of my most trusted practices to pull out of fear and reconnect with my intuition, which I have shared in the video below.)

Anyway, here’s what I learned the “reborn” thing meant after doing the “reconnection” exercise:

Inside, it meant that I was finally integrating some hurt “parts” of myself that have been unreachable despite my best efforts until now (childhood trauma stuff).

Outside, it meant I had to stop hiding behind what I thought people wanted to hear in my business, and just share what I actually do and why. This led me to redesign and rewrite my entire website. (If you’re curious, check out my new About page.)

What I hope you’ll get from this post is that living as your True Self is a continuous series of small steps towards the new and unknown, guided mainly by that little voice that whispers within—and it’s scary shit…because it’s really a process of letting go of all our old identities, ideas and opinions of who we are (and who other people think we should be), so we can operate from the pure power of who we really are.

So, how can you tell the difference between intuition and fear, and how can you reconnect with your intuition after you get lost in fear?

Here’s How

This 3 minute video explains how this problem happens and provides an exercise that will help you reconnect with your intuition. Have fun with it!

What’s Real For You Now?

As Rumi wrote: “If you are irritated by every rub, how will your mirror be polished?”

But, honestly, and no offence meant to Rumi, I think it’s human to feel irritated by this process. Let’s be real. It’s not fun being sanded, shaped and polished. It’s not fun facing all our fears and pain and parts of us we don’t yet know how to meet with love.
